Phi Kappa Tau and the SeriousFun Children's Network
SeriousFun Children's Network provides a safe summer camp experience for children with serious illnesses and life-threatening conditions. Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, Ohio ’43, the then-Association of Hole in the Wall Camps was adopted as Phi Kappa Tau's national philanthropy in 1995. Since then, Phi Kappa Tau members have supported the camps through philanthropy and service.
To support this cause, Gamma chapter annually hosts the pumpkin sale, and the pumpkin games, which both help raise money for the SeriousFun Children's Network. The pumpkin sale is hosted on our front lawn, where individuals walking by can purchase pumpkins for their own use. The sale runs all day and all night. Other items such as hot cider and s’mores are available for purchase. All proceeds go directly the SeriousFun. The pumpkin games are an all day event also hosted at our house as a kickoff to the sale. Fraternities and sororities are invited to join and play various games throughout the day and help raise money for the cause.
In addition to raising money, members of Gamma chapter also volunteer at the nearest camp, Flying Horse Farms, located in Mt.Gilead Ohio, to lend a helping hand. Gamma chapter members volunteer as cabin counselors, activity specialists, unit leaders, and other camp staff during a week or summer as a camp counselor. The Phi Kappa Tau Foundation provides up to $300 in travel stipends to any undergraduate who volunteers at a camp.
Because of your support, Gamma was able to raise over $4000 last year for the SeriousFun Network. While the chapter would like to expand on this number, we can not stress how thankful we are for all who help us help others. Help us this year by stopping by the house and buying a pumpkin, or click on the "Donate to SeriousFun" icon at the top of the page and make a donation online.
Thank you for your support!
